Kubernetes or simpler?
Simpler when possible — ECS, Cloud Run, Vercel Functions, fly.io. Kubernetes when you actually have the scale to justify the operational complexity. Most product teams don't need Kubernetes.
Multi-cloud or single-cloud?
Single-cloud for almost every product company. Multi-cloud only when regulatory or strategic reasons demand it — not for redundancy (that's what regions are for).
Terraform or alternatives?
Terraform for most projects — mature, broad ecosystem, well-understood. Pulumi when teams want to use TypeScript or Python instead of HCL. AWS CDK when AWS-only and code-first appeals.
How do you handle secrets?
AWS Secrets Manager or HashiCorp Vault. Never in env files in repos, never in CI logs. Rotation policies for high-sensitivity credentials. SOPS or age for encrypted-in-repo when needed.
Cost — typical wins?
Right-sizing instances (most are oversized), Reserved Instances or Savings Plans for steady workloads, S3 lifecycle to Glacier, eliminating idle/forgotten resources, dev/staging downscaled outside hours. 30–50% reductions are typical.
Compliance — SOC 2, HIPAA?
We build the technical controls: encryption at rest and in transit, access logs, least-privilege IAM, vulnerability scanning, backup/restore drills. Pair with Vanta or Drata for the compliance platform side.
How fast can a developer start?
